THURSDAY, JULY 29: We're all grabbing red blankets and picnic baskets and heading to Boston Common for a Huntington flash mob of sorts at Commonwealth Shakespeare's production of Othello. Join us and show your support for Comm Shakes and your love for the Huntington. This event is sponsored by our 35 Below gang, and you can learn more about the event on Facebook, and RSVP right here. Remember to bring your RED blankets and see if you can score one of our RED buttons!
Oh yah! We built the set. Right here in our Huntington Ave Production Facilities. I went down to the Common, near the Parkman Bandstand, yesterday to check things out. All looks great - here are a couple of photos.
The Othello set under construction on Boston Common.
Our crew taking a well deserved break from the heat, humidity and sun.
If you can't join us on the 29th, Othello runs July 28 thru August 15.
NOW THRU AUGUST 14: BCA ResCo Company One is presenting GRIMM over at the Calderwood Pavilion. GRIMM is a brand-new collection of short plays by Boston's most celebrated playwrights inspired by their favorite Grimm Brothers' fairytales. Looking for a sweet, soothing tale to carry you away toward dreamland? Look somewhere else. These stories originally by the Brothers Grimm have been remixed, re-imagined and given a fresh Boston twist! Featuring new work by John ADEkoje (6 Rounds/6 Lessons), Lydia R. Diamond (Stick Fly, Voyeurs de Venus), Marcus Gardley (Dance of the the Holy Ghosts), Kirsten Greenidge (103 Within the Veil, Gibson Girl), John Kuntz (Superheroine Monologues, Salt Girl), Melinda Lopez (Sonia Flew), and Gregory Maguire (Wicked)! Recognize the names in RED? Yep - those are four of our Huntington Playwriting Fellows! Reminder - Huntington subscribers get a discount for any show sold on BostonTheatreScene.com (including GRIMM).
NOW THRU SEPT 5: Further south, New York's Second Stage is presenting TRUST directed by our very own Peter DuBois. 2ST says "Harry is rich. Harry is married. But when Harry doesn't trust any of it is enough, he looks to find something real in the most unlikely of places. TRUST - a new play by Paul Weitz, Oscar-nominated screenwriter of About a Boy and director of the film American Pie, explores the corrosive effect of power on relationships."
TRUST features a RED HOT cast featuring Bobby Cannavale, Sutton Foster, Zach Braff, and Ari Graynor
Huntington night at TRUST is Friday, August 13 - when Peter and a number of Board members and other Huntington reps will be in the audience. Board members can call Michelle Cicerano for details. If you're planning to see the show why not join us then. Tickets available here. How to get there? Take the RED LINE to South Station and catch a bus or a train. Maybe you can catch the RED EYE home.
We built the set for TRUST, designed by Alexander Dodge, too. We had it up in the BU Theatre for a few days to make sure it all worked before we shipped it off to NYC. It looks pretty cool!
and finally...
THURSDAY, AUGUST 19 AT 6PM: Our culturally curious 35 Below gang has planned a rockin' field trip - this time to another one of Boston's natural wonders - Boston Harbor! The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston presents HARBORWALK SOUNDS: Eric Robertson and the Boston Boys, a music performance at the ICA, 100 Northern Ave on Boston's waterfront. The ICA says "The Boston's Boys sound is contemporary roots rock, blending reverence for the Beatles and the energy of the Avett Brothers with hints of Appalachian string band music. Featuring singer-songwriter Eric Robertson, this new group is comprised of students and alumni of Berklee, a recent hotbed for emerging bluegrass musicians. Harborwalk Sounds is sponsored by Karmaloop.com". We'll probably have those RED BUTTONS again, and you can RSVP right here.
Also on THURSDAY, AUGUST 19: Tickets for our 2010-2011 Season go on sale, and you can get 50% off tickets for select performances of Bus Stop, Circle Mirror Transformation, and Vengeance is the Lord's. Save the date. Or you can get ahead of the curve and SUBSCRIBE TODAY!
