Strong Carbon Arc Spotlight

This carbon arc followspot - a piece of stage lighting history which has lived in our upper lobby at the BU Theatre for the last few years - needs a new home.

I would really really really hate to toss it.

If you have a good home for it - and can come pick it up before 9/12/08 - let me know. Email me at twilliams at huntingtontheatre.bu.edu

If you think you might know of someone who would like it - please pass this link along.

No - it is not functional - you don't really want to be burning carbon these days - do you?

oh, I have used those things many times over the year, I have no love for them at all, burned fingers, and you get a tricky one that is hard to keep the the carbon rods aligned .. I have one vote for what to do with it .. .. Boat Anchor!!!

I wish i had the room for it... just for the historic value.

good luck finding a home. is there a museum or anything that would take such a piece?

and what's funny is i swear they still have one of these at my daughter's high school. heh.

I learned to run a carbon trouper at the age of 10 while my father and I refurbished 2 troupers for city of OKC, OK. Until a few months ago still ran carbon Supers until the venue stopped all spot rentals... It was a sad day... Back when it took a REAL stagehand with SKILL!!! I also have a trouper (minus reflector) I will someday restore. You CAN'T Beat EM'

Is this wonderful piece of equipment still available? If the mirror is there I would be interested. Scott Foster, Honolulu fosters005#hawaii.rr.com

hey Scott -

The spot has been taken and should soon be on display in the lobby of a local lighting company.

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

I was on the stage crew as a student at Neville high school in Monroe Louisiana in 1985. We had one of these that we actually used then. Now my son goes to this school and the spotlight has been replaced with a newer one. That old spotlight used to burn our fingers and was very cantankerous!
