What Audiences Are Saying About Captors

Have you seen Captors yet?

  • How did you feel watching Eichmann get captured for the second time? Was this Nazi war criminal a sympathetic character, or are his actions still irredeemable?

  • Captors is a dramatization of actual historical events that hopefully illuminates the story in a new and unfamiliar light. Even Peter Malkin himself struggled to remember the exact details of his time in Buenos Aires. Did this story affect or change your perception of world history? Did parts of the the play surprise you, even if you already knew the history behind it and how the story would end?

  • Did you attend a post show conversation? What comments surprised you or made you think differently about the play? Would you attend a post show conversation again? What were you thinking about on the way home from the theatre?

Excellent performances and a fascinaing subject made for fine theater. I especially enjoyed the opportunity offerred by the "talkback" where audience members shared their views. 4 out of 5 stars.

  9. Captors is a "must see" for anyone concerned with history, psychopathic hatred, denial, and as H.A. put it "the banality of evil." Well acted - everyone was very good, well staged, this is one of the Huntington's most important offerings. It was frightening, absorbing, insightful, and intriguing. Please pass the word - Captors is not to be missed!

Well, I guess for each theater goer, Captors is either a home run or "not so much". Consistent with the prior comments, a friend told me it was one of the best things he'd ever seen. My experience was a good deal "dryer," for lack of a better word.

There's a very important story here, of course, but it seemed that THAT story was told by the timeline of Eichmann's atrocities included in the playbill and the narrator telling you many of the details, not the least of which were Eichmann's incredible quotations and the world's reaction to his seizure. Consider one of the commentors who said "Prior knowledge of the story is helpful." I'd humbly note that in more than 2 hours, the play should be able to convey the setting and the message in a more integrated fashion.

The story that WAS told by the actors, about whether uber-depraved individuals can convey a sense of humanity in a one-on-one setting, or at least talk themselves into how they were simply very good at doing something that was, in fact, the ultimate in depravity, was well done, but it seemed to justify about 30 of the 135 minutes that comprised the play.

I'm a 15 or 20 year subscriber to the Huntington, so there's plenty of great stuff that keeps me coming back. All in all, Captors discussed important history, but amounted to simply okay theater.
